SHERRY E. SHOWALTER, PH.D., LCSW, BCD, M.MSC., MSW

Sherry E. Showalter, Ph.D., LCSW, BCD, MSW, MMsc, is a Board Certified Diplomate of Social Work with many years of social work practice along with expertise in training health professionals in the prevention of compassion fatigue. Sherry was a 9/11 first responder serving at the Pentagon and has been a traumatologist for over 25 years specializing in traumatic loss and complicated grief and loss. She is a Disaster Relief Specialist, Mass Fatalities Interventionist, EMDR certified and Compassion Fatigue Specialist. In addition, Dr. Showalter received her doctoral degree from the University of Sedona, IMM and is an Ordained Minister of Metaphysical Ministry with a specialization in Holistic Life Counseling. She conducts seminars, presentations, keynote addresses to facilitate healing, enhance coping, examine work-life stress and the compassion fatigued healthcare/mental health provider. Ms. Showalter speaks locally and internationally.

Sherry's most requested keynotes recently are that of Compassion Fatigue and Weaving Stories of Hope in Healing-ways where she blends her native Cherokee trainings with her social work experience. She is a recipient of the National Heart of Hospice award for psycho-social-spiritual caregiving. Her most recent article, "Compassion Fatigue: What Is It? Why Does It Matter? Recognizing the Symptoms, Acknowledging the Impact, Developing the Tools to Prevent Compassion Fatigue, and Strengthen the Professional Already Suffering from the Effects," was published in The American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She has also authored the book Healing Heartaches: Stories of Loss and Life.
