A Person-Centered Approach to High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder
For many clinicians working with clients presenting with high functioning autism, treatments that seem to work during sessions fall short in everyday life. How do you help someone realize his or her behavior is difficult for others to tolerate or how to make meaningful, social connections? This one day seminar will equip therapists with the tools and strategies to improve functional outcomes, not just session outcomes. Gain the knowledge to help clients recognize, interpret and respond to verbal, and non-verbal clues that other people will expect them to read. Enhance clients’ emotional regulation with techniques designed to reduce stress, anxiety, ritualism, and sensory overload while improving self-esteem and adaptability.

  • Examine the roots of social deficiencies

  • Overcome barriers to accurately assess the issues present

  • Implement pragmatic strategies to improve emotional regulation

  • Discover the comorbidities of ASD and the treatment strategies to compensate

  • Describe the academic challenges ASD clients face and develop the tools to help them succeed

  • Speech-Language Pathologists

  • Occupational Therapists

  • Occupational Therapy Assistants

  • Educators

  • Exceptional Educators

  • Social Workers

  • Counselors

  • Psychologists

  • Autism Specialists

  • Paraprofessionals

  • Case Managers
