DEBORAH BRIGGS, PH.D., MFT

Deborah Briggs, Ph.D., MFT, has been a psychotherapist for over 30 years. She developed a specialty in biofeedback during her 16 years as co-director of the Stress Disorders and Counseling Clinic in Long Beach, California. There she faced the complex challenge of finding a practical tool with enough range to be effective with a wide variety of clients presenting a diversity of issues. It was through her own creative process and her doctoral research on "Hardiness and Creative Achievement" that her unique creative problem-solving technique was honed.

Pioneering the role of the creative arts in increasing hardiness, Dr. Briggs utilizes hardy beliefs to foster resilience via "creative" problem-solving. To enhance the versatility of this technique, she utilizes the creative arts, as well as everyday hobbies and the play of imagination.

Keynote speaker and seminar leader, Dr. Briggs has found diverse audiences interested in this unique creative problem-solving with parenting issues, teen pregnancy, and coping with disability. Dr. Briggs has provided resilience in-services for psychiatric social workers and nurses at the Veterans Administration and Memorial Hospital Long Beach and has been a member of the American Women's Medical Association. She has also taught "The Healing Power of Creativity" at UCSD Extension.

In addition to maintaining a private practice and leading workshops in San Diego, Dr. Briggs, an award winning actress, actively engages in the visual arts and community theater.
