STEVEN G. ZECKER, MA, PHD

Steven G. Zecker, M.A., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he has been a member of the faculty for over twenty years. He was formally trained as an experimental cognitive psychologist, but his interest in disordered learning led him to a career as a clinical psychologist specializing in Learning Disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). During his career at Northwestern, Dr. Zecker has been involved in the training of several hundred M.A. and Ph.D. level students who have gone on to careers in teaching, supervision and clinical practice in the field of learning disabilities. For many years, Dr. Zecker served as supervisor in the learning disabilities diagnostic clinic at Northwestern, and he continues to oversee clinical practice there.

Dr. Zecker teaches courses in psychoeducational assessment, ADHD and mathematics disorders, among others. His research interests include ADHD, auditory processing in children with reading disability, giftedness and LD, and the development of spelling. He has been an author on dozens of articles and has presented his work at nearly 100 lectures throughout the world. He has also served as a consultant to an educational software company, a private school for children with learning disabilities, and two standardized testing boards.
