Experience, Firsthand, the Power of Change through Creativity
Words are our primary method of communication, but words cannot always express the complexity of our internal and emotional lives. These are often difficult thoughts, fantasies, and fears to verbalize and talk about, yet understanding sexuality on a deeper level can lead to higher self-esteem, better relationships, and improved social interactions. The process of art-making provides us with a means to our subconscious that is unrefined and uncensored.

In this seminar, attendees will discover how to engage clients in art interventions to express themselves without shame or judgment, and uncover their hidden feelings, fears, hopes, and desires. Participants will explore the meaning and clinical applications of “Communication Intelligence”, as well as examine several real-life case studies that demonstrate how Art Therapy can strengthen all relationships. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in the Art Therapy process with concrete creative interventions to foster heathier relationships with ourselves, our families, our friends, and our significant others. Participants will walk away knowing how to create a sex-positive, therapeutic environment and encourage clients to express themselves in a creative manner.

  • Explain the benefits of Art Therapy and how creativity can allow clients to express themselves in a safe way

  • Describe how understanding sexuality on a deeper level can lead to higher self-esteem, better relationships, and improved social interactions

  • Recognize your biases and prejudices and determine appropriate boundaries when self-disclosing with clients

  • Define “Communication Intelligence” and how it can contribute to healthier relationships

  • Examine case studies that demonstrate how to use art to explore communication, sexuality, and sexual identity in a safe and non-shaming way

  • Identify how society has created a sex-negative culture, and apply techniques to talk with our clients with less shame and embarrassment to create a sex-positive therapeutic environment

  • Apply more than two dozen Art Therapy techniques that help reduce stress, understand sexuality, and increase quality of relationships with ourselves and others
