Elizabeth Parins, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist who has devoted her career to military psychology, caring for the psychological health of military members and their families. After completing her doctoral coursework at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta, Dr. Parins began her professional career as a Navy Lieutenant, at Naval Medical Center San Diego where she completed her pre-doctoral internship in 2000. She served 5 years as an active duty navy psychologist, ending her service at Naval Hospital Bremerton in Washington. She has also had the great fortune of being a military spouse and knows first hand the demands of service on the family. Although she no longer is in uniform, Dr. Parins has continued to serve the war-fighter and their families as a Deployment Behavioral Health Psychologist with the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) both at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego and Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma. The focus of Dr. Parins’ clinical work, supervision and training is on deployment and redeployment related mental health issues, specifically assessment and treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, preparing the service member and his or her family for deployment and reunification, and therapist self-care. Additionally, Dr. Parins focuses on issues related to women in the military, light therapy for seasonal affective disorder (given her current location in the Seattle/Tacoma area), and improving competency based training and evaluation of military psychology interns and residents.
