Course Description:

This seminar will help you unlock the hidden “disconnects” in the brain that manifest themselves as dyslexia. How the brain learns is a mystery, but this seminar will help education and clinical professionals to discern the true nature of the problem and determine effective methods of learning for the individual with dyslexia. You will leave with strategies to remediate each type of dyslexia. You will also participate in developing strategies that will NOT take away from classroom instructional time, yet develop executive skills in four areas of visual perception, auditory processing as well as developing memory strategies. Case studies will be presented and discussed as well as the type of accommodations needed to make positive changes in your clients’ life. You will leave with proven strategies to implement accommodations that enable success.

Objectives:
  1. Label and describe five areas of the brain where learning problems may hide.
  2. Identify the types of dyslexia and their effect on an individual’s learning performance.
  3. List the characteristics of dyslexia and other hidden learning problems.
  4. Describe methods for identifying the three most common types of dyslexia.
  5. Discuss and define various research-based interventions for the clinical and classroom environments.
  6. Develop and implement strategies and accommodations to help an individual with dyslexia learn.
