Course Description:

Join internationally-renowned attachment and trauma experts Terry Levy, Ph.D., D.A.P.A., B.C.F.E. and Michael Orlans, M.A., D.A.P.A., B.C.F.E., in this cutting-edge seminar that will provide you with the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in your clients regarding trauma and attachment. You will learn effective assessment and therapeutic techniques for adults, children, adolescents and couples based on the latest research in neurobiology, resilience, and trauma and attachment therapy. Through video case studies, discussion, and questions and answer dialogue, you will leave this seminar with practical, effective, evidence-based techniques you can use to improve treatment outcomes with these clients.

Terry and Michael have over 60 years’ experience as therapists, trainers and authors. They have developed effective strategies currently being employed by mental health professionals in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Their books include the best selling Attachment, Trauma and Healing, considered to be a classic in the field; Handbook of Attachment Interventions, widely used throughout the U.S. and Europe; and their newest book, Healing Parents, continues to receive rave reviews in the U.S., England and Asia.

Objectives:
  1. Define the psychological, social, cognitive, and biological aspects of trauma and attachment disorder.
  2. Utilize effective individual and relationship-based assessment tools and methods.
  3. Describe skill-based and experiential techniques to improve emotional dysregulation, core beliefs, brain wiring and biochemistry, PTSD symptoms and relationship patterns.
  4. Implement Attachment Communication Training to foster effective communication, conflict-management and secure attachment.

TERRY LEVY, PHD, DAPA

<TERRY M. LEVY, PhD, DAPA, has been a psychotherapist, trainer, supervisor and consultant for over 40 years. Dr. Levy is the director of the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center and the Attachment Treatment and Training Institute in Evergreen, Colorado. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Colorado and Florida, a Board Certified Forensic Examiner and a Diplomate and Master Therapist of the American Psychotherapy Association. He is co-author of the best-seller Attachment, Trauma & Healing (2nd edition, 2014, Jessica Kingsley Publisher, London), editor of Handbook of Attachment Interventions (2000, Elsevier Press) and co-author of Healing Parents: Helping Wounded Children Learn to Trust and Love (2006, Child Welfare League of America).

Dr. Levy was the founder and previous director of the Family Life Center (Florida) and the Miami Psychotherapy Institute, which offered family systems treatment and training. He was co-founder and past-president of the board of directors of the Association for Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children (ATTACh), an international organization dedicated to attachment and its critical importance to human development.

MICHAEL ORLANS, MA, DAPA, BCFE

Michael Orlans, M.A., D.A.P.A., B.C.F.E., is an internationally-renowned author and trainer who has taught throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Japan. He is a Certified Master Therapist with over 32 years of clinical experience working with children, adults and families in public mental health, the criminal justice system and private practice. He is the co-director of the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center and the Attachment Treatment and Training Institute. Along with Dr. Levy, he co-authored the best seller Attachment, Trauma & Healing (1998, Child Welfare League of America) and Healing Parents: Helping Wounded Children Learn to Trust and Love (2006, Child Welfare League of America.

Michael is a pioneer in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults with compromised attachment. He is the developer of Corrective Attachment Therapy and innovator of the two-week intensive treatment approach. Michael is a co-founder of the Association for Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children (ATTACh). He has contributed to numerous books, journals and other publications.
