Course Description:

Enhance your knowledge and clinical skills in using Integrative Medicine for mental disorders. You will learn methods for determining nutritional imbalances in patients, new technology aiding in medication selection, and how to integrate nutritional and Ayurvedic therapies with traditional approaches. Practical clinical applications of traditional and complementary therapies for mood disorders, anxiety disorders and eating disorders will be outlined along with case histories and supporting research.

Join Waldo Castro, MD, an experienced speaker and integrative health expert, and learn practical clinical applications and master the skills required to evaluate the hype and hope of targeting nutritional therapies.

Objectives:
  1. Identify common side effects of standard antidepressant treatment.
  2. Explain the association between folate and depression.
  3. Outline the role of inositol in anxiety.
  4. Define the relationship between GABA and anxiety.
  5. Explain how to alter dietary conditions and provide enzyme supplementation to reduce the levels of casomorphin and gliadorphin.
  6. Illustrate the association between celiac disease and depression.
  7. Recognize the role of hormone imbalance in depression.
  8. Discuss Ayurveda’s perspective on the importance of food as medicine.

WALDO CASTRO, MD

Dr. Waldo Castro, has practiced Integrative Medicine for over two decades and is the founder of Bliss and Light Research, dedicated to sharing Ayurvedic and Complementary approaches to healing. Dr. Castro incorporates over 25 years of clinical experience in Integrative Medicine and combines a holistic approach for primary care. He focuses extensively on preventive care, emphasizing on a bio-psycho-social model for wellness and healthcare, which led him to establish a weight management program centered on empowerment, active patient involvement and awareness.

Dr. Castro received his medical degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, with high honors. He is a fellow of the American Association of Integrative Medicine and a graduate from Sai Ayurvedic College, a NAMA certified institution. As an Ayurvedic Consultant, Dr. Castro has lectured internationally on diverse wellness topics. Dr. Castro has written two books published by La Salle University and is currently working on a book regarding holistic wellness and wealth for mind, body, and spirit. Dr. Castro's teaching experience includes Clinical Medicine for medical students at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and Assistant Professor for post graduate certification programs at The Neurobehavioral Institute in Miami, Florida in the areas of biofeedback, neurocognitive rehabilitation, patient assessment, and many other subjects.
