Course Description:
In today's medical environment, you are challenged to do more with less. Reduced staffing and increased demands from patients, family members and the community can contribute to burn-out. At the same time, you are asked to cope with increasingly difficult patient and family behaviors.

In this interactive seminar, Michael Kravitz will provide you with practical tips and tools that you can use immediately when faced with challenging patient and family behaviors. This program includes over 100 practical strategies to help you cope with difficult situations like aggression, dementia and attention seeking behaviors while maintaining patient and staff safety. The day will be filled with opportunities to apply many of these strategies to real patient situations, case studies and interactive discussions. Don't miss this chance to learn techniques you can implement successfully with your most difficult patients.
Learner Objectives:
At the completion of this program, you will be able to:

  1. Describe a process for identifying problem behaviors in a more objective and measurable manner.
  2. Use behavioral interviewing to determine the underlying causes of patient and family member behavior.
  3. Describe the four communication styles associated with difficult behaviors and the appropriate strategies for each.
  4. Integrate emotional intelligence interventions to improve communication.
  5. Determine appropriate strategies for actual patient situations and case studies.
