Course Description:
Attend this practical and comprehensive EKG seminar and learn to be successful and accurate in your interpretation of EKGs. You will gain the essential skills for determining:
  • Axis Deviation
  • A Systematic Approach to the 12-lead EKG
  • Bundle Branch Block Identification
  • Myocardial Injury & Ischemia
  • Arrhythmia Interpretation

Your speaker, Cathy Lockett, will take the mystery out of determining axis deviation and how to recognize intra-ventricular conduction delays. Careful patient observation and the analyses of the electrical components of the EKG will lead to faster treatment for your patient. You will leave with a systematic approach to EKG interpretation that you will apply immediately in your practice and improve the care you provide to your patients. Cathy makes EKG Interpretation clear and easy!
Please refer to the course brochure for continuing education information.
Learner Objectives:

  1. Recognize patterns on the 12-lead EKG as they relate to activities occurring in the heart.
  2. Establish the importance of correct lead placement for each lead of the 12-lead EKG.
  3. Utilize the "Thumbs technique" to determine axis by quadrant method.
  4. Identify bundle branch blocks through an understanding of QRS morphology.
  5. Recognize patterns of ischemia, injury, and infarct on the 12-lead EKG utilizing a systematic process to identify ST segment, T wave, and Q wave changes.
  6. Correlate changes of myocardial injury with coronary artery occlusion and the region of myocardial infarction.
  7. Establish a personal method for systematic approach to 12-lead EKG interpretation.
  8. Differentiate STEMIs from STEMI imposters on the EKG.
  9. Discuss sudden cardiac death and state common causes.
