Course Description:
Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States experiences a stroke, making this debilitating event the nation's leading cause of serious, long-term morbidity and the third leading cause of mortality. It is essential that healthcare practitioners possess the ability to quickly recognize and assess the often subtle changes in a patient's neurological status in order to quickly respond with effective interventions. Join national speaker and neuroscience nursing expert, Lisa Perla, for this in-depth and practical program focused on maximizing stroke patient outcomes through awareness, prevention and timely treatment.

Well known for her ability to deliver engaging presentations based on real-life application, Lisa will guide you through the entire stroke continuum of care, from detection, diagnosis and assessment, to prevention, maintenance and discharge. She will teach you how to pinpoint the area of the brain likely being affected by the assault of stroke, through a detailed, yet understandable analysis of the associated neurological deficits. You will gain a better understanding of embolic and thrombotic strokes, subarachnoid and intracerebral hemorrhages, as well as emerging treatment strategies including lifestyle modifications, blood pressure management, anticoagulation medications, and neuroprotection modalities.

Lisa combines the latest evidence-based stroke care guidelines, essential assessment skills/techniques, and compelling case studies into an invigorating educational experience to make a difference for your stroke patients!
