ANDREW BEIN, PhD, LCSW, has incorporated DBT principles in individual and group therapy for 15 of his 30 years in clinical service, recognizing and realizing its untapped potential for helping clients since the early years of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. At the time Dr. Bein graduated with his doctorate from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1994, DBT was primarily recognized for its breakthrough success with borderline personality disorder. In the years to come, however, his practice and collaboration with community mental health programs and schools would indicate time and again that DBT techniques can achieve remarkable results across populations.
Dr. Bein now serves as a professor of social work at California State University, Sacramento, in addition to his work as a practitioner, researcher, and nationwide speaker. A seasoned educator, his seminars blend evidence-based and practical-based guidance with compassion, humor, and clarity, reflecting his deep commitment to directly modeling positive clinician practice. His latest book, Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Wellness and Recovery: Interventions and Activities for Diverse Client Needs, illustrates how DBT can be integrated into everyday clinical use for immediate and enduring change.
