KENNETH FUKUNAGA

Kenneth Fukunaga is a senior partner in Fukunaga Matayoshi Hershey and Ching and specializes in complex litigation, products liability and healthcare law and planning. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii (Experimental Psychology, 1976) and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Francisco, School of Law (1973). He is Past President of the Aloha Chapter of the Association for Information and Image Management, as well as past chairman and member of the following state commissions: State Advisory Commission on Drug Abuse and Controlled Substances and Hawaii Environmental Council. Both positions were appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state senate. In addition, he was chairman and member of the Governor's Commission on Mental Health and Criminal Justice, which was tasked with the job of changing the laws governing the insanity defense in Hawaii.

Over the past 28 years, Mr. Fukunaga has presented on a variety of topics including: health care compliance issues (EMTALA, Stark, etc.), legal ethics, health care privacy laws, including HIPAA, the application of Daubert and Kumho Tire to psychological and psychiatric testimony, internet ethics, civil commitment and insanity defense issues, mental health and the law, as well as numerous other topics.

DENIS MEE-LEE, MD, MS, CPI

Denis Mee-Lee, M.D., M.S., attended medical school at the University of Queensland in Australia, completed internship and general medical practice there before entering a residency in psychiatry at Ohio State University and Harding Hospital. Following a fellowship in community psychiatry at Harvard, he founded and directed Departments of Psychiatry inpatient and outpatient programs at New England Memorial Hospital near Boston and Castle Medical Center in Kailua. He was Chief of the Hawaii State Mental Health Division for 10 years from 1977 and Director of Psychiatric Programs at Castle from 1987 to 1999. He is currently founder and President/Principal Investigator of the Hawaii Clinical Research Center, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Hawaii, and Chair, Department of Psychiatry at Castle Medical Center. He sits on the Boards of Hawaii NAMI, USH, CASQIC AlohaCare, MEC of Castle, Governors, Honolulu County Medical Society, and HUSDA Church. He consults, lectures and is a grant reviewer for federal government and national entities and universities, and has been an expert witness for several significant cases. He continues a practice of inpatient and outpatient psychiatry.
